Mentor Selection: The Genetics and Genomics Program requires all students to perform three 5-week rotations during the first semester. This allows students to explore a variety of labs and mentors before joining a lab at the start of the second semester.
The Genetics and Genomics Program holds a weekly seminar series led by the Genetics and Genomics Graduate Student Association (GGSA) featuring nationally and internationally recognized speakers. The Program also supports a podcast series run by the GGSA called Blue Genes and Boots. Our Program emphasizes preparing students for their unique career goals; this includes encouraging students to explore a variety of graduate certificate programs such as in Bioinformatics and Computational Biology (administered by the Genetics and Genomics Program), and the Certificate in the Academy of Future Faculty among others. The program also runs a monthly Career Club where students learn about different career paths in Genetics and Genomics (and Life Sciences in general) by interacting with professionals in non-academic positions, refining skills required to be successful in different careers and job searches and providing a space for active discussion and networking.
